Nobody told me this, so I’m telling you Your cr Nobody told me this, so I’m telling you

Your credit history does not cross borders - you are financially a teenager again.

You will not feel like yourself for longer than feels normal. It’s not a red flag, it’s just the process.

You will Google things you’re too embarrassed to ask out loud. Constantly. For years.

Becoming a mother without your people nearby is its own kind of hard that nobody prepares you for. You figure out who you are as a mother without the village you thought you’d have.

Bureaucracy is a full time job and nobody warned you - GP lists, bank accounts, tax registration - it all lands at once and none of it is intuitive.

Homesickness more than often isn’t about a place - it’s about people, feelings, and sometimes it’s about a version of yourself you can’t access anymore.

You will have to ask for help in ways that feel embarrassing for someone your age - do it anyway.

Starting from scratch making friends is REALLY hard - you feel like you’re back in school again. That being said, you will find it easier to put yourself out there more than you would (mainly because you don’t have a choice).

if you’re in it right now, you’re not behind. you’re just in the middle of it.

Hi, I’m Lauren. American mum in the UK, talking about motherhood, identity and what nobody tells you about building a life somewhere new. if that’s your thing, follow along 🤍
1. My spotify is Taylor Swift, A Day to Remember, 1. My spotify is Taylor Swift, A Day to Remember, and irish dance music. In the same playlist.

2. I’m a leo with the most non-leo tendencies.

3. I only seem extroverted because living abroad forced me to be.

4. I can think of nothing worse than cooking dinner every night - if I could live off takeaways, I absolutely would.

5. I’d rather watch Who Wants to be a Millionaire on a friday night than go out.

6. I’ve broken the same bone in my foot twice, which, apparently, is nearly impossible.

7. I thought i’d be a really organised, put-together mum. I am not that mum.

8. I used to avoid conflict at all costs. Somewhere in my 30s that switched.

9. I would pick walking around an unfamiliar city over a beach holiday every time.

10. I am genuinely terrible with money.

Miserable mum summer can f*ck off xo I want to ac Miserable mum summer can f*ck off xo

I want to actually be present with my boys this summer, enjoy the chaos instead of just enduring it, and do things as a family without my brain being somewhere else entirely. I don’t want to white knuckle my way through July and August, like I feel like I’ve done in the past.

So I’m treating June as a bit of a reset, getting back to the basics that have quietly slipped - the ones that make me feel like myself and make life *slightly* easier so that when school breaks up I’m actually ready for it.

What’s something you’re doing before the summer hits?
