We Moved To Yorkshire!

I figured a little “life” update was definitely due after everything going on. As you may (or may not!) know, …

I think - maybe - we’re finally turning a corner I think - maybe - we’re finally turning a corner 🤞🏻

Not sleeping through, though - let’s not get ahead of ourselves 😅 But definitely better.

For years, it’s been multiple night wakings, nap strikes, niight terrors, and co-sleeping. Oh, and a toddler who thought nursing all night was a personality trait 🫠

There were nights I cried out of pure exhaustion. Days I ran on caffeine and fumes. And stretches where I genuinely thought we’d never make it out of the fog.

But lately I’ve sensed a tiny bit of change. My 5-year-old is sleeping through most nights (thank you Gro Clock 🙌). My youngest is still in bed with me for most of the night but sleeping longer stretches; I can even get a few hours of him in his cot before he comes in with me.

It’s not perfect, but it’s a huge improvement.

If you’re in the thick of it right now, I just want to say:

It’s not your fault. You’re not alone. And it does slowly get better.

Some kids just take longer. Some mums need more coffee. And we’re all doing our best.

Tag your fellow sleep-deprived mum friends - or the one who hasn’t slept since 2020 💤

We’re in this together 🤍

Moving to a new country is super exciting. But there is also A LOT of life admin that needs doing. Is it fun? Nope, but in order to make your transition smoother, I’d definitely recommend ticking these 3 things off your list as soon as you can:

✨ Open up a bank account - When I moved to the UK, it took me TWO. WEEKS. to open up my bank account. I was in and out of the branch multiple times because they needed so many details. It was honestly stressful and a HUGE pain, considering the fact I earned in dollars and needed my bank account opened ASAP so I could actually bring my wages over 🙃

✨ Get some bills in your name - I don’t know if it’s like this everywhere, but here in the UK a lot of places will require you to provide some official type of proof of address. I couldn’t even get my cell phone plan in my name when I moved to England because I had no proof of address - I had to have my husband do it!
*Tip 🤗 if you get your bank account opened ASAP, having your first bank statement mailed to you will be helpful for this*

✨ Get your driver’s license and get driving - You’re probably surprised hearing me say that, given the fact I hate driving here 😂 But it IS essential to be able to get around…especially if you have kids (unless you live near really good public transport). When you move to England, you can drive for 1 year on your original license before you need to get your UK driver’s license. I put it off as long as possible because I was terrified of driving. I actually wish I had done it all sooner. so I maybe would have a bit more confidence.

What’s the first thing YOU did when you moved abroad? Would you add anything to this list? Share some tips below for people about to make the big move! 🌍
This is where the fun’s at 👋 Hi, I’m Laure This is where the fun’s at 👋

Hi, I’m Lauren - an American living in Yorkshire, raising two little boys far from family, working weird hours, and very slowly crawling out of the motherhood trenches.
⠀
If you’ve ever felt like motherhood hit you like a freight train (but also somehow made you softer), if your “me time” looks like curling up in bed witha book that’s definitely not PG, and if you’re craving more than just survival mode - you’re in the right place.
⠀
Here, we talk about:
✨ Real mum life (the messy, funny, relatable kind)
✨ Rediscovering who you are post-kids
✨ Finding little pockets of joy in the chaos

Wish I’d done this last time 🤪✈️ Preppin Wish I’d done this last time 🤪✈️

Prepping for a long-haul flight alone with two little ones is A LOT. The second I booked our flights I may have gone into panic mode 😅

From the packing lists to the to the “how do I keep them entertained for 8 hours?” anxiety spirals - it’s enough to make you want to cancel the trip isn’t it?!

But this time, I’ve got a secret weapon: ChatGPT 🙌🏻

I’ve been using it to help me create week-by-week prep, custom packing lists, plan travel-friendly snacks, draft toddler tantrum contingency plans (seriously), and organise every little detail ahead of flying solo with my boys to the US.

This one hack has saved me so much mental load - and I know it’ll help other mums too.

💬 DM PROMPTS and I’ll send you the prompts I’ve used so far + some more that would help to make the prep easier, calmer, and way less overwhelming.

For the mums doing it all, and doing it tired - I see you 🤍
